| Biowaste2energy | Biowaste2energy has pioneered a new process to convert biological waste into hydrogen, a clean and useful energy source. Biowaste2energy's technology combines a two-stage fermentation process with patented novel membrane separation technology which permits economically viable yields of hydrogen to be produced from the consumption of food wastes. Biowaste2energy's process converts biological waste into clean water and CO2 as it generates hydrogen, dramatically reducing the volume of waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Thus, the technology will combine the production of a 'clean' fuel with the reduction of landfill demand. Initially targeting sugary food wastes, Biowaste2energy aims to develop its technology to handle a number of different waste streams including mixed food waste. Biowaste2energy Ltd was formed in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and an Oxford University spin-out, EKB Technology Ltd.
